Amrit Singh of H & Jodie’s has raised over £5,400 for Stroke Association after completing the London Marathon despite facing two injuries and sweltering heat.
Amrit, who has taken the reins of the family business - an award-winning Nisa Local in Walsall - with his brother Pav, was inspired to take on the challenge after his mum (Jodie) suffered a stroke in 2022.
“I did it for the Stroke Association, my mum the core of our family and business suffered an unexpected stroke in 2022,” he told Convenience Store.
“By God’s grace she’s made a full recovery, but from a c-store perspective it showed us how fragile our systems can be and how much we rely on our family to fill multiple roles”

Amrit’s journey to the finish line wasn’t easy. At the 12km mark, he faced a double challenge of two injuries along with the soaring temperatures that already made the marathon tough enough.
“So it was a rough and tough experience!,” he said.
“I just had to walk through the pain for the rest! The sun was beaming down, but it became a test of will, I was just walking through the pain.”
Age isn’t just a number for Amrit. Last year at 29, he saw the marathon runners in awe and decided to take on the enduring challenge when he turned 30.
He was eager to discover what he could achieve when he truly “puts his mind to it”. And what did he achieve? He proved resilience, refused to quit, conquered 26.2 miles and smashed his fundraising target for a charity close to his and his family’s hearts.
