Scotmid has officially opened its new Burghead store, bringing more choice, expanded services and a larger shopping space to local customers.
The new 2,000 sq. ft store is double the size of Scotmid’s previous Burghead location and, by moving into the former Burghead Parish Church building, gives customers the opportunity to complete their weekly shop locally.

Customers can choose from more than 2,000 products, with some ranges doubling in size compared to the previous store. The expanded space offers a wider selection of fresh and frozen food, everyday essentials and locally sourced Scottish produce.
The store’s food-to-go offer has also been enhanced, with a broader range of ready-to-eat and convenient meal options, alongside new services including an InPost parcel locker.
The development gives the landmark building a new role at the heart of the community, while retaining key historic features including its stained-glass windows, which remain a feature of the new store.
Church Elder Patrick Glendinning officially opened the store by cutting the ribbon, joined by his wife Janet, colleagues past and present, members of Scotmid’s North Regional Committee, Scotmid Board Members and the local community. Guests were welcomed by a traditional piper, while pupils from Burghead Primary School marked the occasion with a special performance of “Consider Yourself”.

To mark the opening, Scotmid will donate a friendship bench to Burghead Primary School, creating a dedicated space where pupils can meet, talk and support one another.
Chief operating officer of retail at Scotmid, Brian Boyle, said: “This is much more than a larger store. It is about making sure people in Burghead can access more of the products and services they need closer to home.
“Local shops play an important role in their communities, and this additional space has allowed us to expand our range, introduce new services and offer a better shopping experience for customers.
“This opening reflects our continued commitment to Burghead and, as a co-operative, supporting communities like this is at the heart of what we do.”
