A new Go Local Extra store has opened in Tredegar, South Wales, as the fascia group continues to expand across “key growth locations,” it said.

The new store, located on Castle Street, has just opened following the transformation of a former Barclays Bank building into a modern convenience store. Covering 1,250 sq.ft., the site is operated by retailer Kevin Berzh with investment support from business partner, Punithagaran Poopalarethnam.

The pair acquired the property in July 2025 and undertook an extensive refurbishment, overcoming structural challenges and securing planning consent to convert the historic building into a retail space. Work completed at the end of January this year, bringing the total investment to £240k.

Kevin and Punith identified South Wales as a strong location for growth and began exploring symbol group options before choosing Parfetts. The pair said they were impressed by the strength of the Go Local Extra proposition and the support offered by the Parfetts team.

Welsh products will feature in the new store alongside the regular favourites.

Kevin said: “We looked at several symbol groups when planning this store, but Parfetts stood out straight away. The communication has been excellent from day one, and the support we’ve received throughout the project has made a real difference.

“This store has been a major investment for us, and we wanted to create something the community could be proud of. We’ve spent time getting to know local residents and neighbouring businesses and made sure the store reflects the town. Bilingual signage is in place, and we’re stocking a number of Welsh products alongside the core range so the offer feels relevant to local shoppers.”

Tredegar town mayor, Alyson Tippings, formally opened the store, cutting the ribbon at the launch event and offering her ongoing support.

Guy Swindell, joint managing director at Parfetts, added: “It’s fantastic to see Kevin and Punith open their new Go Local Extra store in Tredegar. They’ve invested significantly in the site and demonstrated a strong commitment to creating a store that serves its community well.”
