Police officers were called to a convenience store in Newcastle Avenue, Worksop, shortly after 2.30am on Friday (9 January) following reports a man had entered the store brandishing a knife - after being told he couldn’t have any free items.
The offender left the store before returning, but by then officers had arrived and detained him after finding a knife in his waist band.
The 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Detective Chief Inspector Les Charlton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We understand the impact incidents like this can have on hard-working shop staff and so I’m pleased a suspect is in custody.
“Thankfully the shopkeeper was unharmed but this would have been a very distressing incident for him. I hope our robust response provides reassurance to the victim and wider community.
“I’m also grateful to our uniformed response teams, whose actions affected the safe arrest of the suspect.”
