As Small Business Saturday approaches this Saturday (6 December), new insight showing rising footfall figures in independent stores will no doubt offer a glimmer of fresh hope for struggling smaller retailers.

Small Business Saturday is a national celebration of small businesses which supports UK enterprises by encouraging the nation to shop locally.

Speaking of the initiative, Joe Pheln, loans expert at the money.co.uk website, said: “Small Business Saturday is a timely reminder of the value of the UK’s 5.6m small businesses, which are essential to our local communities and economy.

“While supporting independents is important all year round, this day can help small and medium enterprises boost their visibility and strengthen relationships with customers, whether through special in-store offers or a stronger online presence.

“This period is a good time to gather insights and plan for the year ahead - customer feedback, testing new marketing strategies, and reviewing staffing or operational needs can help turn a busy weekend into long-term, sustainable growth.

“Above all, Small Business Saturday celebrates how independent businesses thrive when communities get behind them. By showcasing what makes them unique, it encourages stronger local connections and helps sustain the small business landscape throughout the year.”
