Over two million people are expected to come together for this year’s Great Big Green Week in June.

This summer, two million people across the UK will come together for good to take action for climate and nature, celebrate what is already happening and strengthen the communities they love. Co-op, BT and Openreach will be part of that moment.

Both businesses have confirmed their support for Great Big Green Week 2026, the UK’s only mass moment for climate and nature, taking place from 6 to 14 June.

Co-op will mark the week by encouraging over seven million of its members and colleagues to take part in community events, bringing Great Big Green Week directly into the high streets and neighbourhoods where its customers and colleagues live and work.

In 2025, more than 1.2m people took part in over 5,800 Great Big Green Week events, many of them in everyday spaces including high streets, shops and community venues. One third of participants had never previously taken part in a climate or nature event. In 2026, that number is set to double.

Paul Gerrard, public affairs, policy and campaigns director at Co-op, said: “As a member-owned co-operative with more than seven million active members, we know people care deeply about protecting the places they love and the future they’re building together.

“That’s why we’re proud to support Great Big Green Week. It’s a practical, positive moment that helps communities come together for good. We’ll be encouraging our members, colleagues and communities to get involved locally, celebrating what’s already happening and taking simple steps that make a real difference for climate and nature.”

The event is non-political and open to everyone. It celebrates practical action that benefits communities, protects nature and helps people live well. Businesses of all sizes can get involved, from hosting in-store events and staff volunteering days to partnering with local community groups.

Helen Meech, executive director of The Climate Coalition, added: “Real progress on climate and nature needs everyone - communities, businesses and government all pulling in the same direction. Great Big Green Week is a practical, positive way for businesses to show what they’re already doing, making that action visible on the high street and in local communities, and showing just how normal, and how popular, action for climate and nature has become.”
