New Co-op store in Cardiff following cyber incident 2

Following the recent cyber-attack on its systems, the Co-op has today (18 June) given an update on the business as well as launching a thank you initiative for members after their support.

It is launching a thank you proposition to express gratitude to its six and a half million members who have shown their support to the business during the challenging period of the attack, with 25% off a member’s shop when they spend £40.

The announcement comes as Co-op’s 2,300 food stores return to usual trading, with all marketing activity switched back on and a new national summer advertising campaign launched that champions the retailer’s ‘one-stop-destination’ status for summer.

The offer is being introduced from today, and runs for one week. The instore-only deal will also be made available to new members that join as a member-owner, as the business continues with its strategy to grow its base from six and a half million to eight million by 2030.

Co-op is predicting that it’s set to sell over half a million barbecue meat products, including British beef burgers and British chicken kebabs, 1.1m bottles of chilled wine, 2.3m bottles of beer and over 128 tonnes of ice cubes this week. It’s also forecasting more than a million redemptions of its lunchtime meal deal offer.

Matt Hood, managing director at Co-op Food, said: “I’m very proud that, thanks to the work of our colleagues, we’re very near to making a full and complete recovery from the recent cyber-attack.

“We’re so grateful to our member owners for their support and patience with us during what was a very difficult time, and hope this gesture goes a little way to showing them our thanks, with more rewards to come over the summer.”

Te news follows the launch of the retailer’s highly successful and popular festival pop-up store programme, with Co-op having set up its first store of the season at Download Festival last weekend. It witnessed a record number of members shopping there and is now preparing for its next pop-up store at the Isle of Wight festival - followed by the iconic Glastonbury.
