It’s very good news that the Department of Health will be providing £200,000 this year and £300,000 for the next two years to help local c-stores sell and promote fruit and veg similar to the scheme already up and running in Scotland.

C-stores in deprived areas, starting in the North East this autumn, will be given help to buy shelving, chiller cabinets and promotional materials to help the local population eat more healthily. A project co-ordinator will work with stores to help them to maximise profits and minimise waste.

The project, branded with the Change4Life logo, will be run in conjunction with the Association of Convenience Stores – another reason for joining this dynamic group.
