Life for c-store owners in Birmingham is finally getting back to normal after their business was hit for several days by the effects of a freak tornado.
Retailers had to be evacuated from their stores on July 28 after the sudden storm uprooted trees and damaged homes and business premises in the Moseley, Sparkbrook and Kings Heath areas of the city.
Some were then forced to stay away from their outlets for up to four days before they were allowed to inspect the damage, with many attacking the city’s council for taking too long to clear up the situation.
Zaman Khan, who runs Frontier Stores convenience store in Moseley, had to close his store for two days and feels the local council should have kept him better informed about what was going on.
He said: “For the first day I was just standing behind a barrier waiting to hear some news as to when I could get into the store. A tree feel down outside the store but it took them ages to clear it.
“Thankfully things have returned to something like normal now.”
