Three Post Offices in the West Berkshire and Wiltshire areas have been granted a stay of execution after intervention by the Post Office watchdog Postwatch.
Two branches in Wokingham and another in Warminster will have to wait to hear their fate. It is thought the reason for the delay is Postwatch's questioning of nearby branches and crown offices' ability to absorb additional business. A further three branches, selected to be converted to outreach services, will have to wait to hear their opening hours.
A total of 33 branches in the region have received formal notification of their closure. A further eight offices will provide a limited-hours outreach service to customers.
Public consultations have recently ended in the Scottish Highlands, Newport & Gwent Valleys and in Lancashire & Fylde with Southport. Some 22 branches are under threat in the Highlands, 25 in Newport, and 59 are earmarked for closure in Lancashire.
