Less than half (43%) of retailers feel they are ready for the introduction of the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) next year.
Revealed in research carried out by Exchange For Change, only 43% of respondents are “feeling fairly or very prepared for the scheme,” it said. The results also show that more than two-thirds of respondents (68%) are aware of DRS, with just under a year to go.
Newsletter response
Around half of respondents have also accessed information through the Exchange For Change website or newsletter, and the feedback it’s receiving “will help us better understand how we can shape these channels to provide retailers with ongoing guidance and support,” the company said.
The release stated: “We had a great response from retailers across the UK, representing a wide range of businesses, from independent shops to larger retail chains - with 47% of responses coming from small businesses with between one and five stores.”
The monthly survey also offers retailers the chance to win £250 of Amazon vouchers.
“We’re keen to hear from retailers every month so we can track how readiness is evolving and shape the communications, guidance and practical support we provide on the journey to October 2027,” the release concluded.
RVM artwork guidance
Alongside the publication of the first certified Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), Exchange For Change has now also published new RVM Artwork Guidance, featuring the new Exchange For Change and DRS brand identity.
The guidance provides the approved branding, signage and customer instructions for certified machine models, helping retailers “create clear, recognisable return points and making it easier for customers to identify where containers can be returned to redeem their 20p deposit,” Exchange For Change added.
