Dave Geeves, who runs Polgooth PO and Stores in Cornwall, had what he hoped was a bright idea. He has 17-year-olds working for him and wondered whether he could approve sales of alcohol via CCTV. He further wondered whether he could supply staff with a list of pre-approved customers so he wouldn't need to be on the premises.
I suggested he talk to the local authorities as they will be the ones coming down on him if it doesn't fit with their methodology.
The answer was no. He, or someone else of age, has to be there physically to approve the sale.
But not all local authorities interpret the law in the same way. Is there anyone who has had approval for any unorthodox methods of overseeing such sales?
