More than 650 young people across Dundee’s North East Campus enjoyed a healthy start to the day as part of a vibrant Brain Health Week, where learning, wellbeing and community collaboration came together in an energetic programme designed and led by school staff.
A key highlight was the Welby Breakfast, delivered through the Scottish Grocers’ Federation (SGF) Healthy Living Programme and supported by Scotmid. The initiative gave hundreds of pupils a nutritious start to the school day while reinforcing practical messages around healthy eating and sustained energy for learning, with Scotmid volunteers also on site helping to serve breakfast and support the morning activities.
The campus, bringing together Longhaugh Primary School, St Francis RC Primary School and Quarry View Nursery, placed brain health at the centre of the week, helping pupils explore how food, movement and positive daily habits support healthy brains and overall wellbeing.
Activities on the day led by Alzheimer Scotland aimed to teach young people about how the brain works and how everyday choices affect long-term health. This event also launched a national Brain Health tour as part of the charity’s 2025/26 partnership with Scotmid.
Kathryn Neil, programme director of the SGF Healthy Living Programme, said: “The programme is about making healthier choices easy, engaging and accessible for children and communities. School breakfast programmes are a powerful way to start conversations around nutrition, energy and brain health, and it’s fantastic to see the creativity and enthusiasm shown across North East Campus.”
Lynne Ogg, head of membership and community engagement at Scotmid, added: “The passion and creativity of the staff has been incredible to see. They’ve built a week that’s energetic, inclusive and full of opportunities for pupils to learn in ways that really stick.
Being part of Brain Health Week reflects our ambitions as a community retailer, working side by side with schools and partners to help young people thrive.”
