A long‑established Isle of Sheppey convenience store has relaunched under the Spar fascia, following a full refit designed to “expand chilled and frozen capacity, modernise the store environment and strengthen its offer for both local residents and seasonal visitors,” Spar said.
The store, operated by second‑generation retailer, Jatinder Sahota, has served the community for more than 30 years. Previously trading as Londis and supplied by Booker, the business has now transitioned to Spar.
The refit includes energy‑efficient chillers, a significantly expanded chilled range, and a larger frozen offer featuring Iceland’s recognisable products.
The store layout has been redesigned to open the frontage and improve visibility into the shop, supporting impulse purchases and enhancing the customer experience.
Meal deals
The move also introduces Spar’s revamped Meal Deal, a selected Philpotts range, and an enhanced food‑to‑go offer through Country Choice.
The coffee offer has moved from Tchibo to Smoking Bean, strengthening the store’s hot beverage proposition.
Jatinder, who has worked in the store since the age of 16, said the switch reflects his ambition to modernise the business while staying true to its independent roots. “We’re a family‑run store and know our customers personally - many have shopped here for decades. Spar gives us the flexibility to stay independent while offering a stronger, more competitive range. The uplift in fresh sales since switching has been immediate.”
The store’s refit is supported by AF Blakemore & Son, Spar’s largest UK wholesaler. Lisa Miles, BTP manager there, said: “This is a great example of how Spar can help independent retailers elevate their offer. The expanded chilled and frozen ranges, improved store layout and stronger Food To Go proposition mean Jatinder can serve both regular customers and seasonal trade more effectively.”
