The new National Minimum Wage has now come into effect.
The adult rate now stands at £5.05 per hour while the youth rate for 18-21-year-olds has risen to £4.25 per hour.
The hourly rate for 16- and 17-year-old workers remains at £3 but is up for review by the Low Pay Commission in its annual report to government in February 2006.
