Human error affects retailers in many ways, but it seems unfair that Payzone (Alphyra) won't fork out 10 quid because a retailer didn't realise the till roll had run out.
Sue Hay, who runs Ponswood Store at St Leonards on Sea in East Sussex, had two £10 mishaps recently: a paper jam and then no paper at all. "Because it was human error when the paper ran out, Payzone won't refund the second amount," says Sue.
A spokeswoman at Alphyra says that retailers are warned about this when they take out a contract, and "have to watch out for a faded pink line on the till roll".
