FishandChips

The clasic fish and chips is just one of the £3 meal deals Abu Bakr is offering students..

An affordable meals scheme in introduced by Abu Bakr Supermarkets in its food to go meal deals has been introduced at a price of just £3.

The aim is to introduce international students to British food culture, while supporting over 20 Asian and international student societies in the Leeds store’s vicinty.

The deals offer a Masala Fish & Chips or an ‘International Meal Deal’ under the popular Food 2 Go Cafe section at its store in Hyde Park - aimed at helping students enjoy “affordable, culturally inclusive meals near the University of Leeds.”

Fish and chips is one of Britain’s most recognisable comfort foods, historically valued for its affordability and filling nature. By adding masala spices, Abu Bakr Supermarket introduces this British classic to international students with a flavour twist that celebrates cultural diversity while keeping the meal familiar and approachable.

The £3 International Meal Deal includes either a hot dish or wrap, or fish and chips.

“Fish and chips is a British classic, but we also know students are feeling the pinch,” said MD, Hamza Hussain.

‘’We’ve absorbed the cost of the fish ourselves rather than passing it on, because we want to give something back to the student community here in Hyde Park.”

The deals are designed to help Leeds’ Asian and international student society students from organisations including the Bengali Society, the British Chinese Society the Indonesian Society and many more.

The meals are, of course, are also available for UK based students, making it simple for those at Leeds University and beyond to access affordable meals while engaging with their cultural communities.
