Retailers will soon be able to benefit from a store refit with a conscience, when Uno Retail Solutions rolls out the Uno Eco Refit later this year.
The Staffordshire-based shopfitter is in the process of developing what it claims will be "the most sustainable and environmentally friendly shopfit for the c-store market".
The refit will use equipment which has a low carbon footprint. "The fact that Uno manufactures much of its own equipment is a huge plus," said Uno managing director Dominic Perks. "It means that our counters and joinery equipment have a much lower carbon footprint than those that have been imported from across the globe."
Perks added that by using higher specification materials, Uno's shopfits would last longer, making them more sustainable.
The group is also working closely with refrigeration cabinets manufacturer Arneg to produce a kit that is both affordable and environmentally considerate. Chiller cabinets which can cut energy usage by 10% by recycling cold air as air conditioning are likely to be used.
Uno plans to lobby the government to provide its customers with capital allowances for the work.
