Paypoint is trialling the sale of high street gift vouchers through its terminals in the Cardiff area.
A dozen major chains including Argos, Debenhams and Arcadia have signed up for the scheme, through which shoppers can buy gift cards at local convenience stores via Paypoint terminals. More than 60 stores offer the service, with a regional rollout planned to follow.
Retailers receive margins of 5% from sales of the cards and Paypoint has developed a range of pos material including posters, shelf-talkers, leaflets and a countertop stand to communicate the service to customers.
Retail director Mike Igoe explained that the system could be extended to include other gifts such as vouchers for days out and hotel stays.
