Anita Nye, manager of Eldred Drive Stores, in Orpington, Kent, says multipacks of beer are flying out thanks to the warm weather and the World Cup.

“Whereas people might usually pick up a four pack, it’s all the eight and 10-packs that are selling now. The top brands are Budweiser, Fosters and Stella, plus we sell a lot of vodka and our flavoured ciders sell well, especially to women.

“Last night I think England wanted to lose so they will be up against an easier opponent in the next round. I don’t really mind what tactic they use to stay in the game because as long as they do, our sales continue to benefit!

“Of course we are also selling loads of BBQ foods, coal, fire lighters and plastic plates and cups. When people are entertaining in the garden they don’t want to have to worry about washing up so it’s good to provide options to make life easy for them.”
