Retailers in a Devon harbour town are arguing that plans for a floating shop will cause a decline in the number of visiting yachtsmen coming ashore.
Salcombe's harbour board has announced plans for a 'provisioning vessel', providing grocery ordering and delivery as well as a takeaway food delivery service. Local retailers fear its introduction will damage already struggling businesses.
But harbour board chairman Julian Brazil told local press he believed the floating shop would bring more sailors to the town. "It's all part of making Salcombe more attractive and I don't think sailors will stop coming ashore," he said.
