A man has been arrested after a shop assistant was stabbed during a raid on a convenience store in Bolton.

The shop assistant, who works at Fernhill Convenience Store on Wigan Road, Deane, in Bolton, was attacked by a man with a knife after trying to fend him off.

The robber took cash from the store till before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The injured shop assistant was then taken to hospital.

Police were called to the store at 12.20 on Tuesday (June 5) and a 32-year-old man was stopped a short time later and arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The arrested man remains in custody for questioning.
