A gang of youths attacked a Best One convenience store and one other in the heart of Bristol this weekend, using items from the store as weapons and having to be forced out by the outnumbered staff there.
In a post shared and now widely viewed on social media, around six people are seen kicking and spitting at staff at entrance of the Best One store on Friday evening (31 July) on Queen Charlotte Street’s. One even used a lottery game stand as a battering ram against the front door.
In a statement, a spokesperson from Avon & Somerset Police said: “We’re aware of social media videos that have been published relating to incidents at a convenience store in Bristol yesterday evening (31 July).
“Police were called to Baldwin Street at about 6pm after reports of suspected shoplifting and a group of teenagers acting aggressively towards shop staff. Officers attended at about 6.10pm and the youths had left the scene.
“We were recalled to Baldwin Street shortly before 8pm with staff saying the group were trying to re-enter the store. The teenagers fled the area prior to officers arriving at about 8.10pm and they could not be located. An officer has since spoken to staff and provided reassurance that an investigation will be undertaken to try to identify those involved.”
The force has since called on the public for any evidence they may have, saying: “Enquiries - including reviewing footage of the incidents - are ongoing. Anyone with information that can help our enquiries is asked to contact us online or on 101, quoting reference number 5226215030.”
