Jay’s Budgens in Crofton Park, south east London, plays a starring role in Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ Christmas music video.
The video for the band’s latest release, Wandering Star, features a shoplifter, a dressed-up Santa played by actor Stephen Graham, and an inept security guard. Most of the action takes place within the store, which was shortlisted for the 2019 Convenience Retail Awards’ Best Independent Store category.
Store owner Pratik Patel described the video as “a bit of a spoof”.
”The location manager had been in here previously for a Bic lighter ad, and he thought it was suitable for the video. A lot of stuff goes in to it for a small end product! I met Stephen Graham, who is a lovely guy,” he added.
“My dad’s unintentionally in it in the first few seconds filling up the shelves! It was good fun and games and gives us our 15 minutes of fame.
“I asked the security guard to stay on but he declined!”
Noel Gallagher shot to fame in the 1990s as founding member and lead songwriter of Manchester band Oasis.
Stephen Graham has starred in numerous films and TV series, including Line of Duty, The Virtues, Rocketman, and Martin Scorsese’s latest film The Irishman.
