The Government has advised of a 15-day delay when creating new accounts for business rate valuations.

The deadline for changes to business rates valuations is approaching, and with the potential for technical delays, businesses are advised to ensure they are good to go well in adavnce of 31 March.

You must request any changes to your current valuation for business rates by that date. Anyone who pays business rates but thinks their current valuation is wrong has been encouraged to sign up for a business rates valuation account.

With new accounts taking 15 working days to set up, the Government has today (3 February) urged businesses to ensure they leave enough time to prepare.

You have until the deadline to request changes to your current valuation by checking the details the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) holds about your property and letting them know if you think anything is incorrect.

The VOA has updated the rateable values of all non-domestic properties in England and Wales, known as a revaluation. These are carried out every three years to reflect changes in the property market.

From 1 April, a new rating list and valuations take effect and you’ll only be able to request changes to your new valuation from then.

If you need to request changes to your property’s current valuation, you can sign in to your business rates valuation account here.

If you don’t have an account, register now and claim your property. You will need a Government Gateway user ID and password or a One Login account to sign in.

Be aware that if your Government Gateway user ID has been inactive for three years or more, it may have been deleted for security reasons. In that case, you will have to create a new account and reclaim your property, which may also take up to 15 working days to process.

Any changes made to your 2023 valuation could result in your property’s rateable value going up or down, which may also affect your future valuation.
