Joan Scott-Adie ”dedicated her life” to carrying forward the vision for CJ Lang which was started by her grandfather.

Spar wholesaler CJ Lang announced its sadness at the passing of life president, Joan Scott-Adie, who succumbed to a long illness on 15 June.

Joan was the granddaughter of Charles Lang senior, who founded the business in Dundee in 1919, and the daughter of Stella and Charles Lang. She dedicated her life to carrying forward their vision.

As long-serving chairwoman and majority shareholder, Joan oversaw a period of significant growth, helping to build CJ Lang & Son Ltd into Scotland’s leading independent food wholesaler and retailer, and the Spar wholesale partner for the whole of Scotland.

Throughout that journey, Joan was supported by her husband John, also deceased, who was also closely involved in the business.

Joan was a devoted mother to four daughters - Fiona, Serena, Caroline and Tanya - all of whom are also shareholders and serve as non-executive directors and continue the family’s proud involvement in the business.

“She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her,” CJ Lang said.
