Blakemore Retail is trialling “a pioneering fresh foods concept” in three of its Spar stores with the help of value fresh meat and food-to-go retailer the Crawshaws Group.

The trial partnership will see the Crawshaw’s retail concept introduced in stores in Sheffield and Doncaster from 5 October.

A factory outlet will also be introduced at Blakemore’s Spar store in Wath-upon-Dearne.

The offer will include a range of fresh meats pricemarked at £2.50 and mix-and-match multipack deals.

The Crawshaw’s food to go range includes whole cooked chickens and joints; curries and stews; pies and cooked meats.

The partnership will deliver a unique point of difference for shoppers within the convenience market, Blakemore Retail’s managing director Stuart Adkin said.

“We are in no doubt this initiative will attract additional footfall into our stores by offering a unique fresh meat proposition complementing our great value and quality fresh produce for customers looking to fulfil their tonight’s tea shopping mission.

“It is clear that the Crawshaws proposition delivers outstanding value for customers and we are confident that this initial pilot will be a success and we look forward to developing a prosperous business relationship with Crawshaws in the future.”

Depending on the success of the initial trial, there is the option for both companies to open further stores in the future.

Crawshaws CEO Jim Viggars added: “Convenience shopping is growing significantly, and we are delighted to include this additional route to market which complements our own Factory Shop rollout strategy.”
