Retailers are being reminded to be vigilant in the run up to Bonfire Night after new research found that one in five teenagers plan to get hold of fireworks this year.
As fireworks went back on sale to retailers on October 15, new data from Under Age Sales has found that thousands of under-18s are expected to try to get hold of the age-restricted items.
The survey found that 20% of those planning to get hold of fireworks will attempt to buy the products themselves - either with or without a fake ID - while almost a quarter said they will ask an older friend or sibling to buy on their behalf.
Under Age Sales managing director Tony Allen said: “In the lead up to November 5, we’re urging retailers to educate themselves on the controls put in place and to seek advice if they’re unsure of anything relating to the law on fireworks and age-restricted products.”
