Pauline Irvine of Lagan Valley Spar in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, took home the Community Hero award, presented by Coca-Cola Enterprises’ Selena Taylor. Although she works only 20 hours a week, Pauline moved mountains to organise a sponsored walk for staff to participate in. She had to make countless visits to the Parades Commission in her spare time in order to get permission for the walk, as well as contacting the local paper and radio station to ensure media coverage. Her efforts were well rewarded and the team raised an incredible £1,000 for the local stroke unit. “The whole experience has been amazing - winning the awards, taking my first plane, coming to London and having lunch at The Dorchester,” says Pauline. “I can’t wait to show my award off, especially as lots of people back home have been rooting for me!”
