Here guys, I’ve got a great idea for Britain’s independent grocers. Let’s flog the wholesaler we mutually own to an outfit that’s been our enemy for generations. We’ll stock its own label rather than our own and we’ll sell some of the products at less than cost so they get a decent margin. We’ll forget all we’ve ever learnt about marketing by confusing our loyal customer so they don’t know if we’re independent or part of the coop. We might need to explain why we can’t offer them. The 5% rebate on Coop brands their card entitles them to in coop group stores. We might be bottom of the pecking order when it comes to priorities but are we really bothered about performance levels?
After we’ve achieved all this we’ll get Bernard Mathews turkeys to campaign for a bigger better Christmas.
