Drinks company Hammonds has announced it is launching a Japanese rice beer into the UK convenience market.

The new Echigo Koshihikari Rice Lager is sold in 500ml glass bottles (rrp £4.49) and is made with barley, malt, Koshihikari rice and hops (5% ABV). The drink is sourced from the Niigata Prefecture region of Japan and aged at a low temperature.

Jonathan Hammond, md of Hammonds, said: “Japanese drinks are growing in popularity the UK and we have arguably the best product within the Rice Lager category. Echigo Koshihikari is micro-brewed using rice water which means it is the perfect beer to complement a meal as it won’t fill you up. Try it with Sushi!”
