The retail trade is rallying to raise funds for the relief effort in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Asia.

The Dhamecha Group has made a donation of £50,000 to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) and the Bestway Foundation has added a further £100,000 to the fund. Collection boxes have also been installed in 49 Bestway cash and carry depots across the UK. National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN) president Mahendra Jadeja has also announced that the Federation is launching an appeal and donating £5,000.

PayPoint retailers can now accept donations to the DEC. Customers can donate between £1 and £499 and posters informing shoppers are being sent to stores. Pakistan was worst hit in the October 8 disaster, but parts of India and Afghanistan were also affected. The quake is thought to have killed more than 40,000 people and left thousands more injured and without shelter.
