A consultation which seeks to improve compliance with and enforcement of age-restricted product sales has been launched by the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO).

It is hoped that the results will lead to the establishment of a code of practice for regulators and enforcement agencies, with a particular focus on test-purchasing.

LBRO chief executive Graham Russell said: “Alcohol, tobacco, knives and other products that shouldn’t be sold to children can cause tremendous harm to people and communities. This consultation asks how we can act together to protect young people.”

LBRO anticipates publishing the draft code for consultation in the autumn.
