In-store systems including epos are the main technology investment priority for retailers, says a new report.
The IT in Retail Report 2008/09, produced by software provider Torex and retail business process expert Martec, covers IT investment priorities for the next three years and examines 19 areas including store systems, merchandising management, logistics and multi-channel retailing. It is based on research carried out with retailers including Spar, Costcutter and The Co-operative Group.
After store systems, retailers next prioritised merchandising systems and website and e-commerce systems. Mobile technology is identified as a rapidly growing area with 56% using or planning to use the technology.
Torex chief marketing officer Doug Hargrove said: "This report makes it clear that technology plays a vital role as retailers automate more of their processes."
