Tates has defended accusations that it is using unfair pricing tactics.
Harjit Singh, who owns High Heath News in Pelsall, near Walsall, claims a nearby Tates store, owned by AF Blakemore, is selling 24-can packs of Carling cheaper than he can buy at his local Blakemore's cash and carry. He claims that Tates' prices must be below cost.
Tates managing director Geoff Hallam told C-Store it was not selling alcohol below cost. He added: "We are simply meeting the needs of our customers for good value. This is a local promotion to meet local competition."
