Residents of Walworth, South London, have rallied round staff of their local Costcutter after the fatal shooting of a customer in the store.

Ryan Bravo, 18, was shopping in the store with his brother and cousin on August 6 when two men burst in and started shooting. Ryan, an innocent bystander in what is believed to be a gang-related fight, was shot in the back.

Costcutter area manager Dave Tarrant, who visited the store after the incident, told Convenience Store that support from the community had been fantastic. “Things are slowly and surely getting back to normal,” he said. “It’s a close-knit community and everyone has been visiting the store to check up on the staff.”

The store was closed for three days while police investigators combed the site for evidence.

Twelve people have since been arrested in connection with the incident, three on suspicion of murder.

Unemployed Ashley Bucknor, 19, of no fixed address, has appeared before Camberwell Green magistrates court charged with murder.
