C-store retailers suffering robberies in 2006 lost an average of £1,468 per incident, according to new figures released by The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS).
More than 4,000 retailers responded to the ACS' crime survey for the fourth quarter of last year. Burglary also hit retailers hard with an average of £1,453 lost to the crime per incident.
Respondents also highlighted the problem of staff theft - thought to account for more that half of all shrinkage - with retailers losing an average of £1,115 per recorded incident. Nearly 5% of retailers reported a violent incident having taken place in their stores.
