Spar has appointed its first salaried vice-chairman to its national guild.
The position, which had previously been filled by an unpaid Spar retailer, will be taken up by Jacqui Jackson, a former Spar retailer of more than 20 years. From 1984-2005, Jacqui was managing director of Thomas Jardine & Co Ltd, a fourth-generation family business which owned two Spar stores. She and her husband Keith sold the business in 2005 to take up academic careers at the University of Central Lancashire.
Jacqui was a member of the Scottish Guild from 1990-2005 and retail director on the National Guild of Spar from 1998-2005. She also served as
a committee member of the Scottish Grocers' Federation for five years.
Guild secretary Martin Agnew said: "Jacqui will bring a lot of experience to this position. We are keen to engage Spar retailers in the strategic development of our business through our unique guild structure and believe that harnessing Jacqui's drive and vision will help us achieve this aim."
