An independent Scottish retailer has persuaded his fellow c-store retailers to agree to charge shoppers for plastic bags.
Sid Ali, who owns a Nisa and a Londis store in Aberdeenshire, said two Costcutter stores and three Spars in the region had so far agreed to join in plans to charge customers 5p for each bag used. Any money raised will be donated to local schools.
Sid told Convenience Store: "I think we've got a real responsibility to do as much as we can to help the environment. I want to involve as many local businesses as possible. This way, at least those who still want to use plastic bags will be helping their local schools."
