The Scotmid Co-operative is hoping to raise £200,000 for blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan over the next 12 months.

The year-long partnership will see Scotmid raise funds and awareness of the charity, which runs the UK bone marrow register.

A superheroes theme has been chosen and nearly 5,000 staff members will turn into ‘The Scotmid Lifesavers’ for the year.

Money raised is hoped to enable Anthony Nolan to add 2,000 new donors to its bone marrow register from Scotmid’s retail areas – Scotland, North of England and Northern Ireland. The partnership launched in Edinburgh with an event at the Portobello Scotmid store.

Representatives from Scotmid and Anthony Nolan were present and store employees dressed up in ‘Scotmid Lifesavers’ capes to pledge their support for the partnership.

In 2012-2013 Scotmid chose Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres as its charity partner and it raised £260,000.
