Scotmid Co-operative is to roll out further self-scan technology following a successful trial.

Head of store development Mike Gordon said the scheme, which had been trialled in four of its Edinburgh stores, had been well-received by the public.

“A third of all of our customers, including those that do not use the self-scan tills, now feel that their waiting times have been reduced.”

He added: “We are now planning to roll the tills out to a further 25 stores in 2014.”

The company is now experimenting with a convertible self-scan till.
