The Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) has relaunched Just Ask, its shop save and home news delivery (HND) initiative for magazines, with a trial which could lead to a national rollout.

Just Ask packs, including shelf-talkers, posters and a best practice guide to help retailers get the most out of magazines, have been delivered to 800 independents in the Nottingham area. The scheme is intended to communicate the vast array of magazines available to customers, even if they cannot be displayed in the store.

PPA says its initiative broadens the range of titles sold and creates a point of difference over other outlets, increasing customer numbers, footfall and impulse purchases, and promoting loyalty to the store.

Director of circulation Nicola Rowe said: "We believe that the independent retail sector is hugely important for magazine sales and there is untapped potential for growing sales in the areas of Shop Save and HND.

"Shop Save enables retailers to order any magazine via wholesale from more than 3,000, irrespective of whether they already stock it."

A second trial will be carried out early next year.
