The World Cup could boost the UK economy by as much as £1.25bn, with consumer spending the main reason for the increase.
According to a study by the Centre for Economics and Business Research, consumers will be rushing out to buy memorabilia to mark the 2006 event as well as buying extra food and drink to consume during matches.
Sales are predicted to rise in off licences and pubs by £285m - 1% cent of annual industry revenue. An estimated £300m will be spent on marketing during the tournament.
