Independent convenience store customers are more likely to buy gifts, cards and treats in their local shop than supermarket c-store customers.
Market analysts Him asked 349 shoppers in independent stores if they would buy a gift, treat or card for various special occasions. Some 33% said that they would be likely to buy something in the independent for Christmas. Mother's and Father's Day came second at 23% and Valentine's Day third at 20%. Easter, Halloween and Bonfire Night got 20% of the votes. However, the report highlighted the number of people, 41%, who wouldn't consider buying a gift in independents, while 44%, 41% and 64% would not consider buying gifts in managed chains, supermarket c-store and forecourts respectively.
