Mobile payment and loyalty app Zapper has signed a new partnership with the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN).

The Federation, which claims 15,000 members, is endorsing the solution to its affiliated retailers, ans members can claim a promotional discount when they sign up.

Zapper combines pay-by-phone mobile technology with a loyalty programme, so that shoppers can instantly redeem unique special offers in participating stores and retailers can access sales data about purchases of individual customers. Existing epos equipment can be easily adapted to incorporate the new system.

Nisa and Booker’s estate of symbol brands have already signed up to Zapper, with Spar also coming on board shortly.

Margaret McCloskey, head of operations at NFRN, commented: “Our NFRN members are really excited about Zapper’s cost-effective platform to help them stand out in a competitive market. This combined solution will enable independent retailers to offer digital loyalty cards, send targeted in-app promotions and accept mobile payments. Never before have independent retailers been able to do this, as well as, track their users’ purchase habits and create targeted marketing campaigns via the app to help grow their profitability.”

Jon Birt, retail sales director at Zapper UK said: “Knowing your customer and rewarding their loyalty could not be easier or more affordable for all stores of varying size and format. We are thrilled to be endorsed by NFRN and very much look forward to working with the Federation throughout the UK.”

  • So basically a handful of Nisa & Premier retailers are using Zapper.......

Do Zapper write this article themselves? Or is their literally no checks for accuracy prior to publishing phrases like " Nisa & Bookers estate of symbol brands have already signed up".

I have NISA stores and the membership have not endorsed this third party.

  • Article should read "Zapper have paid the NFRN to endorse them and then have paid convenience store mag to write about it.... "

Reality is all members are independently owned and very few if any will probably sign up. We retailers are not stupid and we know the value of our own data. Hands of Zapper
