Former Nisa chief executive Neil Turton has taken up the position of trading director at new convenience chain My Local.

Turton was originally approached to be a non-executive director at the chain but has stepped into the trading position full-time following the departure of original director Richard Collins. In his new role he will be working with manufacturers to build the My Local product range as well as driving opportunities for additional supplier investment.

Nisa will be the chief supplier of My Local when ownership transfers from Morrisons this weekend.

Turton spent much of his early career at Nisa as a buyer, including several years as trading director. With a turnover of £250m, My Local will be Nisa’s second biggest customer after McColl’s.

Turton told C-Store: “It’s exciting to get back to what I used to do, and I’m really enjoying it. Nisa can supply around 75-80% of the required range, the rest needs to be set up direct to stores and with 130 stores transitioning overnight, the first priority is to make sure all the stores reopen with products to sell.

“After that, there is a huge amount of flexibility to ensure My Local is exactly that - relevant to its customers - and we have a great opportunity to hit the sweet spot in terms of the operating balance between discipline and independence.”
