The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) is to stage a new event this year to help retailers improve the level of contact with their local MPs.

The ‘Heart of the Community’ seminar will feature hints and tips on how to engage with MPs and the most effective ways of getting the voice of local stores heard in parliamentary circles.

ACS is aiming to achieve cross-party involvement in the event. Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg and Conservative enterprise spokesman Phillip Dunne have already agreed to participate.

MPs Nigel Evans, John Grogan and Bob Russell will hold a panel discussion at the event, themed “getting your voice heard and getting things done”.

Other speakers include ACS chief executive James Lowman, independent retailer Jonathan James and Professor Ian Clarke of Lancaster University.

The event will be staged at London’s Imperial War Museum on Wednesday, November 12, and is free for all readers of Convenience Store. For more information or to book a place, email helen.davies@acs.org.uk or call her on 01252 515001.
