The Midcounties Co-operative has embarked on a new project to install defibrillators within its local communities.

The equipment, which can boost a patient’s chance of survival by up to 70%, would be particularly beneficial to remote areas, it said.

The society has teamed up with The Community Heartbeat Trust, a leading national charity dedicated to providing defibrillation services to local communities.

The coming months will see Midcounties Co-operative colleagues working closely with the charity and local people to raise money to buy the units.

The first defibrillator is set to be installed in the society’s Springvale Sports and Social Club in Bilston.

Awareness sessions and support will also be available for The Midcounties Co-operative’s colleagues and the community through the Community Heartbeat Trust, local ambulance services and community first responders.

Maxine Sharman, head of community engagement at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “This landmark project will make a significant difference in our local communities, and is a great way for us to work with groups and businesses to bring a life-saving service to their doorstep.

“We have the exciting launch at Springvale later this month and are looking forward to working with more of our local communities in the future,” she added.
