Londis has seen record pre-sell figures for its Halloween confectionery range, with a 28% year-on-year increase.

This is the third year in a row that its pre-sell figures have increased, with Londis having invested “more than ever” in the 2013 occasion, which falls on a Thursday this year.

To help retailers capitalise on Halloween, Londis stores have seasonal special offers including half price on Haribo Horror Mix, Spooky Ghosts and Sour Monsters, and two for £1 on selected novelties such as Cadbury Scream Eggs.

Londis also partnered with key seasonal suppliers to make dump bins and hook boards available to retailers.

Sales director Scott Wharton said Thursday was the “perfect day” for retailers hoping to make the most of the occasion.

“Just one day ahead of the weekend, trick-or-treaters are more likely to go out and costume parties can run across four evenings,” he said. “It’s a golden opportunity for retailers to boost basket spend and profit.”

Traditionally the third largest sales event in the economic calendar, Halloween continues to grow in the UK. In 2012, a YouGov report predicted spending of £268m on treats, dressing-up, party food and drink.
