Police in Lancashire have taken the toughest stance on underage alcohol sales by issuing more fines than any other county in England and Wales.
Officers issued 178 penalty notices to retailers in 2005 and the total for 2006 has already hit 150.
The force has also been targeting 'proxy' sales, where adults buy alcohol for someone who is underage. Some 25 penalty notices have been handed out for this offence in 2006 - again the highest in England and Wales.
